UNLEASH YOUR
SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE!
"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks"
- John Muir

What do we do?
The main focus of the Outdoor Adventures Club is to provide students and friends of the University of Alabama with exciting and meaningful experiences in the great outdoors. Founded and operated by students of the University of Alabama, the UAOAC is the only official organization on campus of its kind. Regardless of whether or not you have experience in the outdoors, the UAOAC is welcoming to anyone and everyone who is interested in learning more about having meaningful experiences in nature, from hiking to scuba diving to caving to climbing. We just love to be outside!
What's our story?
The UAOAC was founded in the fall of 2014 by freshman interested in staying involved in the activities they had pursued through Boy Scouts in high school. After finding that no such organization existed on campus, an effort was put forward to found an Outdoor Adventures Club that combined the experiences and leadership opportunities of Scouting with the flexibility provided by independent organization. The club was meant to fun and informative as well as accommodating of all skill levels. But perhaps most importantly, the UAOAC was meant to serve its members and their interests, regardless of what they were. These are the fundamental pillars of our club.
Adventures
Currently the UAOAC has over 100 confirmed members but the club is looking to grow! More people mean more possibilities and more fun. It hasn't been very long since the organization was officially approved but anyone is free to browse the adventures we've had thus far. While these trips are representative of what the club does, there is always an opportunity for more diverse excursions and all club members are encouraged to suggest trips of personal interest for the club. Anything and everything will be considered by the club leadership.
Leadership Opportunities
As of the founding of the club the leadership consists of a five-member Executive Committee consisting of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Quartermaster. However, leadership opportunities are available through any special committees formed as well as on any trip taken by the club. For each trip a club member with extensive experience in the activity is given the opportunity to plan, organize, and carry out the excursion (with help from the club officers). This provides a unique leadership experience as well as practice in planning and organization. Any and all club members are eligible for these trip leadership positions and club members with at least 50% attendance at the weekly meetings are eligible to run for an office of the Executive Committee. Elections are held near the end of each school year.
Join us!
Regardless of experience, interests, or personality, anyone can find their niche in the University of Alabama Outdoor Adventures Club. We serve to please all club members and provide a great experience in and appreciation of the outdoors. If this sounds like something you'd like to be a part of, anyone is free to apply for membership and everyone is highly encouraged.
